Something in the European Union stinks, as long as you are not from France or Germany. The richests are even richer, and the poorest are, of course, poorer.

Poor greek, portuguese, irish people,…. and so on….

I’d like to watch more documentaries about the European Union.
I’m open to suggestions.

If it was the United Socialist States of Europe I would say go for it but a unified Europe with a political economy based on capitalism is going to produce winner’s and loser’s and crisis after crisis. Deomocratize the work place while we are at it…. Th EU hasn’t failed the EU under the control of Capital has failed.

The EU isnt gonna last much longer. You cant make a nation, when its only unifying principle is hatred of the US. Besides, if there is one thing history has taught us, is that Europe, is incapable of governing themselves. Sooner or later we are gonna have to go back in to clean up Europe’s mess and rebuild it, again. But for now im gonna enjoy watching Europe implode. Especially since our economy in the US has turned the corner and the worst is behind us. Its gonna be a very long time, before America forgives Europe for all the insults and gloating we have endured the last 5 years.

There could be made much better documentaries about the EU, than just a anti EU campaign, which is totally unbalanced, and sometimes even completely untrue and manipulatively presented.

Plans for a consolidated EU treaty were already existing for a long time, actually the EU Constitution should have been a clear constitutional document…
Yet, by saying no to an EU constitution, no-voters declined this, and so there had to be another AMENDMENT of the Treaties.
But, together with the Lisbon Treaty (Amendment) there ALSO came a consolidated version of the EU treaty to make its reading more comfortable and transparent: http://goo.gl/pfGmc

You can not call this a documentary, and certainly not describing it as ‘presenting the pros and cons of the Lisbon Treaty’. This is clear anti-EU propaganda for the Irish people. Really, what is this video doing here??

The one thing that should be made illegal is lobbying . This is undemocratic , who has the money wins . Also the EU has to show much more transparancy. Unelected and unaccountable Eurocrats should be banned , and everyone in EU politics has to be accountable

Its one of those complex things where having a definite binary answer is impossible.
The EU is undemocratic: the foundation of it is, surely. But then it also brings a new (and maybe higher) equilibrium to the given democracy. Let me explain:
-When you have issues such as environmental cross-border damages and competition between countries that demotivates the latter to act on their own from fear of being penalised in international trade, then you might as well create a zone with the same environmental rules, in which all members are “penalised” at the same time. Politically, union is a more viable solution for positive implementation of quality standards.
-The quality of democracy is not just a matter of making people’s voices heard, it (the quality) is also a matter of whats inside people’s minds. You may have the best democratic system in which all people’s voices count on each law proposed, but if the people are conditionned (from culture, or media hegemony)to think a particular way and not another, quality may be severly undermined.
Thus, you might as well try to have a more diverse base of value jugement into the voting society, thereby gathering more experiences and hence solutions. A good exemple is in the field of environment, where advanced countries such as Sweden, Germany, Holland, Denmark brought their solutions to the European scene, thereby making less environmental friendly states access higher standards.

I love and hate the EU… I love the ideals we can have through the concepts, but I hate it when big lobbying industries manage to impose their laws and plans on our rich cultural heritage.

The fact that EU is gonna be decided by working groups, that are not elected by the puplic and thereby rulling europe in an undemocratic way tells me, that EU is a fraud, or atleast very suspicious.

you can make a reasonable case that the higher circles of the EU bureaucracy are way too undemocratic (as in the UN) and even that too much national sovereignty is given up with the new lisbon treaty. the inclusion of eastern european countries over the last 8 years was rushed, economically problematic and undemocratically processed.

but i have to agree with blunder here that the producers are being if not hyperbolic at least very one-sided.
they present nearly no quotes from the treaty to back up their claims. if anything the quoting is negatively selective.
the eurosceptics are not scrutinised by (counter-)questioning. instead we watch a continuous parroting of unverified claims. what about recent jurisdiction, opinions from lawyers, economists and historians? if there’s a power grab going on, present the academic outrage that would certainly follow.

it is mentioned that germany’s huge population of 82 million unbalances the legislative process in their favour. but they forget to mention that germany’s population is going to dcrease disporportionally compared to neighbouring countries in the coming decades.

and then they enter nutty conspiracy theory land by bringing up the new world order. ugh.

Dear mr. Blunder, I don’t think you have really understood this short film. It may be a tad over dramatic but the fact that the EU -if not entirely suppressing- is at least reducing the effectiveness of democracy is a clearly valid point.

Your documentary is a complete fraud and so are you! The reason is very simple: You haven’t allowed anyone to make a counter argument.

Oh and only Ireland can save the… hahaha!! You been drinking WAY yoo much Guinness mate!!

As far as the “end of nations” is concerned, it’s actually not such a bad idea given the fact that they are responsible for most wars!! People don’t seem to wanna see this because they have been indoctrinated from birth to believe the nation state is a good thing and never to question its historic validity.

It’s like faith in Allah in dictatorial theocracies. No one is ever going to question it and think differently if they haven’t even heard of the concept of atheism (by the way I’m not in any way saying that atheism is better than faith in Allah, this is just an example of an environment where no one questions anything).

If I were you, modest producer of this documentary fraud, I’d smarten up a little and see that the world is made of shades of grey.

The Lisbon Treaty may well be a bad text, I don’t think so, but that’s a valid opinion if it is your informed one. But to have an informed opinion, you have got to engage in a meaningful debate and your documentary does the exact the opposite!!
