theres so much killing, abuse, war etc not because of religion and their differences but because our society and nation/s are and have been too busy pointing the finger at someone or something (religion etc) and so selfish as to wanting everything for themselves.

Every teaching (verse) in the Bible, Qur’an or any spiritual scripture has a context. so before judging the teaching lets try and understand the context (actions occurring at the time, history, who those verses were directed to etc). all the verses have more than merely words. commentary are available for a-lot of the scriptures.

i’ve realized someone asked something about homosexuals. well, think about it- is that even biologically compatible.

Lets not criticize but accept and respect one another.

Marrying preteen girls was common…Even Europeans preferred their wives that young.
It was the only surefire way to ensure virginity.

It’s only been in the last 200 years where society has started shunning it.

Also, Mohammed waited until she was 12.
The reason they did this was to assure virginity, and as a result preserve bloodlines etc.

Not a big difference you say? It was back then. you were lucky if you lived to see fourty back then! This is a time where a six year old could be a king, and a sixteen year old could lead an army into battle!

If you want to call Mohammed a paedophile feel free…But by that logic you’re also calling every other man and woman born before 1800 a paedophile too.

You also ignore that Mohammeds first (and by all accounts most beloved) wife was older than him.

I’m not sticking up for the practice, rather i’m putting it in perspective with the time!

One of Muhammad’s wives was Ayesha or Aisha. Depending on what sources are used her age at marriage is sometimes put at 6 and consummation at 9. However there are a number of facts which need to be factored in.
1: Not all sources agree with Bukhari about Ayesha’s age, Bukhari’s Hadith were not collated until 300-odd years after Muhammad’s death. Other sources give Ayesha’s age as being 16 at marriage and 19 at consummation.
2: Even if her age were 6 / 9, the custom of taking child brides was a part of Middle-Eastern culture. The Jews practised it as well as many of the other nations in the Middle-East and remember too that Mary of Nazareth’s age was probably around the 12-14 mark.
3: Customs and Traditions as well as laws were very different then from now. What is considered unacceptable now was not considered anything to comment about then.

That he married a 9 year old Aisha doesnt mean he had sex with her before she was sexually mature. (you equate the two) The norm in such cases was to wait.. to not have sex before sexual maturity and menstruation. Looking at Mohammed’s sensitivity and wisdom in other cases; including women’s rights.. it becomes more than just likely that he was moral in this regard as well. And he had plenty of critics. Its also significant that having grown up in that household Aisha grew into be a modern, independent, and outspoken woman who ran a business.. one of the cool things about these people is that there’s so much relatively contemporary information about them//more than any other religious figures.

She is said to have been his favorite wife in later years. But many people dont know his first wife (‘the older wealthy widow’) died. And in the years they were together he never took another wife. And then there would be quite a few..but put it in the context of the time and place and its not strange. There was one ‘revelation’ of his that gave him permission to marry more wives than other men who are permitted only 4..heheh. But again, this was not so much about sex as the drive to extend his base in his belief that he was a ‘prophet of the one true god’.. and doing something vital for the good of ALL of humanity.

Its amazing ..how huge its become. It is good to understand why Islam has such broad appeal and Mohammed is almost universally admired (by those who look objectively) at his life.. and not all the crap subsequently and currently done in the name of Islam.

Personally I believe all religions are an affront to humanity at this point. Religions are man-made. The universe is not. Science and the human experience are universal; religion is tribalism that purports to speak for god(! potentially a very dangerous thing)) There may be wisdom too but there is so much that is disturbing to modern sensibilities that we really have to pick and choose..and then that is subject to such broad interpretation. Lets just leave all this tribalism behind. all a mystery a Mystery and recognize that we are just a miniscule part of this massive whole…and not the image of god or the sole purpose of creation.
