Everyone calls the USS Liberty a spy ship but there was surreptitious or secret about what it was doing. It was collecting intelligence in International waters with its name on the side and a big American flag flying from the mast. There was nothing secret at all about what the Liberty was doing.

All embassies do the same thing, by the way. All you have to do as look at the antennas on the roof of any embassy. But no one calls an embassy a “spy” building. And the reason they don’t is because embassies collect electronic intelligence openly, just as the USS Liberty was.

In short, the Liberty had every right to be where it was and doing what it was doing.

I agree with what you say America is run by a bunch of criminals but disagree with most of the rest.Israel spys on America more than any other allie in the world.And what about on 9/11 the Israely Mossad were taping it well jumping for joy with a picture of the planes hitting the towars.Then the Israels being caught on the bridge in a van with explosives.Then when they get back to Israel they were on the news and said they were just there to document the event showing they new it was going to happen.But they and no other American in government or Israel government was ever charged.They are not Americas allie or friend mabe some opf the corruptr scum in the American government.USS Lybertry was a crime intentionaly done by Israel.America is crumbling and the snakes in the Israely government are trying to again get more Americans killed in a war with Iran.And there are more crimes Israel has commited that now person can keep track.In there holy book not the Tora but the Talmid is so evil it might as well have been writen by the devil himself.Aside from certain Jews you will get a Talmad not the real one they use as a religious book but a fake.Go on the internet and see the real evil in the real Talmad it will make most sick and I’m sure angers GOD.Albewt you must be an evil Talmad reading Jew or a real fruit.

“The israelis didn’t ask for their help in the war and they were not spying the egiptian military activity”. Every country in the world has a intelligence service which has the job of spying neighbor countries, asses threats, provide informations regarding intentions, finding ways to provide the upper hand to the country that is defending in the first place. Israel is spying everybody because it has the advantage of a very big diaspora and a large amount of enemies. They exagerate sometimes, yes. They need to be put at their place…yes. The americans had the right to spy on them, well, yes until they got caught. wonder what the american reaction would be if an israeli ship packed up with electronics would sniff around Annapolis or something of a big military importance.

Operation Cyanide? Looks like there was a deal between the US and Israel to sink the Liberty and blame it on Egypt thus allowing the US to enter the war. Problem was the Liberty didn’t sink and many witnesses were left alive thus the need for the cover up.

Read “Zionism: the Real Enemy of the Jews” by Alan Hart, a former British war correspondent and personal friend of Golda Meir. Those three paperback volumes explain why the USS Liberty was there and why Israel didn’t want U.S. intelligence to know they were moving troops to invade where they’d promised the U.S. they would not. They claimed they were attacked first, as they alway claim, even when it’s not true or they use any tiny thing as an excuse to mutilate the Arabs.

Interesting Comments but Steve’s show he has never been there and met the people involved. Don’t get me wrong I spent 4-5 months living and travelling through the Middle East and by the end of it I hated the Jews more than the Arabs. However after going to Yad Vashem I got an insight into the Israeli paranoia and arrogance and now only hate them both equally with a grudging respect for the Israeli predicament (this is a flippant generalisation about the people you meet travelling rather than a comment on the entire cultures but rest assured I hate all nationalities (including my own) relatively equally).

I am not American and as such perhaps do not appreciate the complexities of your relationship but even siblings get into fights growing up. I have not watched the special but while reading the comments to decide if I want to I cannot help but think the Israeli’s I know would sink anyone’s (including a friends) spy ship in the leadup to a war.

It’s a simple rule “don’t poke the bear..”, it doesn’t matter if you are in the right you just know whats going to happen and when it does you cant really complain. Standing up to a serial killer with anger management problems that has taken your designated car spot is your right, however is it prudent? If you feel you should do it fine but don’t then complain about the results as everyone else saw it coming..
