The Yes Men Fix the World

The Yes Men Fix the WorldThis is the sequel of The Yes Men Movie. The film consists of a several pranks on major corporations and governmental agencies that are performed by Andy Bichlbaum and Mike Bonanno who fancy themselves serious anti-globalization activists.

The two pose as executives from Exxon, Dow Chemical, Halliburton and the H.U.D. They give faux corporate interviews pretending to be DOW executives in which they supposedly announce setting up a $12 billion fund for the victims of the 1984 Bhopal disaster that killed 1,773 people.

The BBC fell for this prank and aired the faux interview. This caused DOW’s stock plummet. Our mindless heroes celebrate their power, but fail to realize that most of DOW’s stock is held by pension funds; in other words, regular working class retirees.

The dynamic duo conveniently found a few such victims who claimed to enjoy the hoax and its impact on DOW’s stock.

This is just a preview. The full documentary is not available at this moment.
You can buy the DVD from Amazon.com.

I loved this. I do not watch TV, so I had no idea what I was in for. Best film I have seen in years.

  • Eff

YES YES YES! I am in tears...from laughter watching big business being deservedly duped and the shoe being on the other foot... If only it was that easy to change the world? I know? Let's make a trade: take the innocent pot smokers out of jail and fill the prison system with capitalists....

  • CW

great watch ! Couldnt agree more Eff haha

  • Skep

Too bad its impossible to expect anything different. Right now its too easy to make money like this while everyone else suffers. They shall sit there and smile and tell you what you want to hear, It will never change.....unless every single human being riots and take drastic actions.....I'm about ready....Heck! Ive been ready

  • eireannach666

@ Skep RIGHT ON! But thats buisness so to speak. However I do say it will have to take alot - Imean alot of people to cause that to happen...... on the other hand I feel the same way about readiness........ TIOCFAIDH AR LA ! ....................... ahh once again I think of sun tzu " f he is taking his ease, give him no rest. If his forces are united, separate them. Attack him where he is unprepared, appear where you are not expected. " but there wil be atime soon hopefully i am there when tides change and the people actually quit taking it from behid and just not doing anything. Our day will come...... but on a different level a quote from an old guy ... a definition rather anarchy is a tool for anarchist to achieve anarchism. SLAINTE!!

  • Candace

awesome! loved it. how do i get the guts to be like these people?

  • eireannach666

@candace by not being yourself. I say that kindly ........................... Slainte.

@Skep 31. Water shapes its course according to the nature of the ground over which it flows; the soldier works out his victory in relation to the foe whom he is facing.32. Therefore, just as water retains no constant shape, so in warfare there are no constant conditions.33. He who can modify his tactics in relation to his opponent and thereby succeed in winning, may be called a heaven-born captain. The five elements (water, fire, wood, metal, earth) are not always equally predominant; the four seasons make way for each other in turn. There are short days and long; the moon has its periods of waning and waxing.VII. MANEUVERING 1. Sun Tzu said: In war, the general receives his commands from the sovereign. 2. Having collected an army and concentrated his forces, he must blend and harmonize the different elements thereof before pitching his camp. 3. After that, comes tactical maneuvering, than which there is nothing more difficult. The difficulty of tactical maneuvering consists in turning the devious into the direct, and misfortune into gain. 4. Thus, to take a long and circuitous route, after enticing the enemy out of the way, and though starting after him, to contrive to reach the goal before him, shows knowledge of the artifice of DEVIATION. 5. Maneuvering with an army is advantageous; with an undisciplined multitude, most dangerous. 6. If you set a fully equipped army in march in order to snatch an advantage, the chances are that you will be too late. On the other hand, to detach a flying column for the purpose involves the sacrifice of its baggage and stores. 7. Thus, if you order your men to roll up their buff-coats, and make forced marches without halting day or night, covering double the usual distance at a stretch, doing a hundred LI in order to wrest an advantage, the leaders of all your three divisions will fall into the hands of the enemy............... Sun Tzu

Great movie, excellent. It just proves what you can acheive with some planning, hard work, skills, dedication collaboration and a clear head. Unfortunatley the kind of action eireann 666 is suggesting doesn't provide any of the above qualities or attributes. Anarchy is easy coz you can continue to smoke your head off and have your head generally stuck up your rear end. Anarchy is easy coz all the non conformists don't have to concentrate and show leadership in a plan that requires a unified, compromised plan. It's a revolution we need but will you be a part of the solution or just bring along the tunes? Check out "the age of consent" by George Monbiot.

  • eireannach666

anarhy is just a tool ....... anarchism is always before the chaos ......... chaos always brings order w/ order comes peace ......... read a hitory book ....... uh a real one........ im not saying i want trouble , im saying that im not afraid of it. there will be atime of this ........ but i was refering to a comment by somebody else . you were kinda just taking an idea you don know about enough to understand and from what you do know looking at as a negative ............. go read some histroy on the changes of ideas and rule throughout time and you may then get what i was talking about , lightly ,might I add..

I thought it was a shame they didn't really take advantage and get a much stronger message across in their first few hoaxes.
If you're going to go to all that trouble why not call Exon, Haliburton and Dow a bunch of murdering bastards in front of the whole world?

  • Eff

    Pacha,
IRONY works wonders...as the YES MEN do so well at. Back in the sixties the hippies had great ideas for a world of peace and understanding as did John Lennon and Martin Luther King. The young idealists were sent to Vietnam to get killed fighting a trumped up war...Martin and John were assassinated. Today they lock up the pot smokers because they view the world differently and threaten the government with rational thinking. I value the comments above...perhaps we can all get a "movement" happening? Any Che Guevera's out there...?

I'm a big fan of irony myself but I think when you're going out live to 300 million people you could do something to leave a lasting impression. All they did really was make dow lose a bit of money in the end. A minor blip in the financial market basically. The majority of people in the world are asleep and I doubt if any of them even noticed that hoax.
Not sayig it's wrong. It just frustrates me a little. Like when Moore makes all the effort to get in someones face and then when he does, he blows the chance to actually make a good point.
Anyway, back to the armchair revolution guys. :)

The link to the actual movie has become irrelevant.. it was removed from that website.

  • DeViAte

    btw

    @Pacha
The point making wasn't made perhaps by what they did in the movie, but by releasing the movie itself i rekon.

    Hi V.

Seems this vid has been removed from stagevu.

I am in Australia and our copyright laws prevent many things from abroad being free viewed over the internet so this maybe what is causing the video to appear to look removed.

Youtube playlist is fixed and the link from StageVu is updated. It's working fine now.

The New Orleans' Mayor said, "...a well dressed lie being chased by naked truth." What an alley-oop for the Yes Men.

    Funniest, saddest, scariest, balls-iest movie!
@Skep: "and smile and tell you what you want to hear" We have to learn really listen, & hear what we don't want to hear; think what we don't want to consider, and then act in ways we're not used to acting. When was the last time we really TRIED to change things? This will be an uphill battle.
    @A. T. Heist: lol - yyyep!

who wrote this review - worried about pensioners losing stocks? How about corrupt companies like Enron causing people's pensions to be wiped out?! This is the type of corporate criminal activity the Yes Men are demonstrating and how the stock market punishes companies for doing the right thing. And people should start looking into what companies are included in their stock portfolios instead of hoping to retire on the profits of companies like Chevron, Dow, Shell who leave a wake of destruction on their path to greed.
