Hubble – 15 Years of DiscoveryESA’s anniversary DVD film Hubble – 15 years of discovery covers all aspects of the Hubble Space Telescope project – a journey through the history, the troubled early life and the ultimate scientific successes of Hubble.

This portrait, directed by Lars Lindberg Christensen, contains large amounts of previously unpublished footage of superb quality. With more than 500,000 copies distributed, this DVD movie is probably the most widely available science documentary ever.

The movie is presented by an ESA scientist, Dr. Robert (Bob) Fosbury, who has himself used Hubble for his own research on many occasions.

Hubble Space Telescope is a wonderful project for humanity. The documentary was also wonderful but I would like to mention about one of my biggest disappointment that I had experienced, in a several universities and government funded, billions of dollars research facility. I started working there with a big excitement. I thought I would be part of the great inventions about universe, subatomic particles and black-holes. In couple months, I learned the naked and ugly face of the reality. There were many old timers and politically connected people who don't care about science, research or the studies and works which expected from them by taxpayers. They were so damn and don't understand the new technologies but they buy it anyway just to justify to spend money which they got it by tricking the related government officials. The old timers created so chaotic system in order to create job security for themselves. Even after their retirements, the manager had to call them to solve those mess and junks. I was lucky to get another job offer and had to move some other organization. I was also lucky not to experience any major potential safety issue it was stressing many people.

Deep Space is the Hubble pic they show over and over
one astronomer chose to have Hubble take a far shot of the
darkest part of space in that there are over 1300 galaxies.
The universe never ends and beyond that the dimensions
never end and beyond that life never ends and beyond that
God never ends. When are we going to have legal weed please
lets not wait till the end :)

Hubble is basically a spy satellite turned the other way around.

a wonderful life enhancing artifact that shall deserve a lot of consensual comprehension and study. a real analogy of creation everyone should be allowed to commune and coalesce with wholly and totally. a gratifying time of reflective contemplation liberated to consciousness, thank you and blessings of sincere gratitude..

if the universe has sped up not slowed down wouldn't that indicate that the Big Bang theory itself is false? We can not determine when "anti-gravity"began it's influence on the universe for it could have been a force all along??????????????????????????//as always ?????????????????"s.also could the universe actually being pulled towards a black hole or could it possibly be that our universe and every universe whith in our sight be it telscopic or not be one of many I mean our whole system is one of many.
we will never know,no matter how many letters come after our

hey,, just move the slide bar to about 20 minutes into the video, turn off the lights, mute the audio. it really is visually stunning. the animation is well done. i did not listen to it, because if i want to know something about the universe, i will watch steven hawkings universe doc on here.

    Awesome !

@Richard: Wow! i hope you didn't strain anything reaching out for that pause button. Try sliding that mouse around, type a few characters and visit the Hubble website, you will find hundreds of images that you can view AND download for free. Or is that too much trouble for you?

Oh, and the whining creationists do love to troll don't they?

Thank you ESA and NASA, for the most important scientific instrument, ever!

lol @memyselfandI....are you really claiming there is no prood that the universe is billions of years old?

honest question....what degrees do you hold? what is your level of understanding of cosmology?

do you understand what the Hubble shift is? do you know what the doppler effect is? Astronomers can tell how old a galaxy is by measuring the light it emits, specifically the amount of light that has been shifted toward the red end of the spectrum. The higher red shift a galaxy has, the more distant it is and the earlier it existed in the universe. do you understand that light travels at a set constant speed, and it takes a certain amount of time for light to travel from one spot to another...being able to see light which is millions of light years away PROVES that the universe is old.

the amount of time it takes for planets and stars to form and die and the fact that we see planets and stars in all different stages of formation and death also PROVES undoubtedly that the universe is old.

im going to go on a limb here and say you arent the brightest crayon in the box are you?

Stealing a name of a philosopher such as Epicurus, doesn't make YOU any more "intelligent" than memyselandi. YOU are another "legend in your own mind." Using Epicurus' name would be like me claiming Jesus' name. It doesn't mean zip. What it does mean, is YOU are a WANNABE, and no more.

Heavy into indoctrination. Heavy into anti GOD theologies and Heavy into the "Might and Possible" realms.
This should have concentrated more into what Hubble has done for the astronomy community. I tire of millions and billions of years when there is no proof and just an educated guess and circular reasoning is given. Does the other point of view do that? Yes. Instead of inviting the Creation side point of view which has contributed tax money for this project only one point of view is given which in my eyes is called "Censorship".

Lord, Lord. I try to stick up for you, and then you go and say something SO dumb!

An insult to all American and European taxpayers that actually paid for Hubble. Waaaaaaaay too heavy on sophomoric poetry and artist conceptions and waaaaaaaaay too light on actual Hubble images. When they do present an actual image none that I've timed are on screen for more than 3 seconds before fading in and out.

Sure I can hit the pause button but the actual pictures are squeezed in between so many artist conceptions it's almost impossible to tell which is which sometimes and besides; why should it be incumbent upon me to keep reaching out to do that? The job of the filmmaker is to pace the material in an appropriate way irrespective of how future viewers may be able to manipulate the material.

Doc is a good example of why taxpayers are reluctant to fund science. We expect to see results. Not for those results to become the exclusive property of scientists to be released to us when they see fit and framed to fit their own particular theory du jour. keep your theories. Show me the pictures.

"Tax payers" have NO choice in what they pay taxes for. So stop making it seem like you "volunteer" your taxes to pay for anything. Taxes are taxes and zYOU can't do a damn thing about where the money goes, or doesn't go.
