Lobotomy tells of the atrocities committed against the country of Georgia by the Russian government and the brainwashing propaganda it used to justify it.

In the year 2000 interview with Larry King, Vladimir Putin smiled insidiously throughout the questioning. This smile was the slick smile of the Kremlin - the powerhouse of lies and story-spinning.

In ancient times, the pursuit of the Golden Fleece by Jason and his Argonauts was a legend. But although the Golden Fleece is no longer in Georgia, there remains the 'Tree of Wishes' whose magical powers are said to leave any visitor to Georgia with a need to come back again.

Georgia suffered devastatingly from Russian attacks in 2008. A controversial war, said to have been started just because the Russian president "didn't like them". The Russian people were fed deceitful lies by their government to justify the war and attack on their neighbor, Georgia.

It was perfectly organized propaganda, with simultaneously sent SMS text messages warning of Georgian attacks and fake television footage of reporters dodging Georgian bullets, which made panic spread throughout Russia. Meanwhile, although there was no actual evidence for these attacks, villages in Georgia were razed to the ground. In one operation called 'The final solution of the Georgian question' it was publicly declared by the leader of the attack in one village "We have cleaned out all there".

But an invisible danger for the Russian authorities could come from within. When Russian troops attacked and took control of the Georgian military base, one of them filmed it on their mobile phone. As they entered the soldiers barracks you can hear the surprise in their voices as they saw how the other side lived. The Georgian barracks were luxurious compared to theirs and had "fantastic beds" and windows! Their voices turned from surprise to anger as they shouted "They had everything... meanwhile we live like beggars!"

Fear is the greatest blindfold. If a government can create rampant fear among its citizens, they are given the seal of approval to protect itself from the enemy. Fear creates a blindness to the truth while playing on paranoia of attack. The get-them-before-they-get-you mentality is automatically adopted and nothing can change this mindset until it's too late.

I think this shouldn´t be called a documentary as it only takes one side, anti-russia.
I do think he made some valid points about Russia and russians in general though.
I´ve lived many years as an expat in Thailand, and have never really had any personal experiences with russians.
But in the past maybe 10 years there has been a very big increase in russian (and chinese) tourists in Thailand, and I have to say that they are a very hard and rude people, they cut in lines, they are rude to the thais, they try to haggle for a coke in 7/11 where you obviously can´t haggle as it´s computerized price system, and many many more negative experiences regarding them. The only people i´ve found similarly bad/rude on their vacations to Thailand is Israelis, also extremely rude people from my experience, even though I´ve met 1 or 2 who were really nice, the majority is the exact opposite. And I think that if you were to ask every western expat in Thailand you would get the same answer as what I´m wrighting here.

Don´t get me wrong, I have great respect for several russians in recent history, and naturally you can´t generalize and say all russians are bad. I suspect that the ones going to Thailand for holiday is the newly rich russians that are used to getting everything served to them in their homeland.

And obviously you have the bad western "sexpat" tourists, or just the drunkards who behave very, very bad.

But I also think it´s a "thing" with russians as one guy tries to explain in the "documentary" that for a westerner to understand how the russian democracy or whatever you want to call their present system, works, the best way is to look at the movie "Godfather"

It´s a very "hard" people which can be partly understandable when you look at only the last centurys history in Russia.

A history such as theirs would probably make most people hard.

Forgive me if this comes across a tad brainwashed, but what nationality are you? I only ask so that I can make an informed judgement about who you are, since I've never met or spoken with you. Indeed if I knew your nationality I wouldn't need to know you or speak to you. I could simply make a 'generally accurate' guess about your character and traits, behaviour and tendencies, culture and beliefs and all from just the area on the planet from which you hail. Tell me, what do you do for a living? For if I also knew that, I would surely know everything I'd ever need to know about you, without having to waste my time enquiring further... 'generally speaking' of course.

Or, maybe... I should have just begun with a question about the colour of your skin - don't get me wrong but that might even have saved a couple of unnecessary questions.

As a US citizen, I am appalled (at how familiar it seems).

    1. veverk

      You mean the propaganda?

    2. pwndecaf

Sure - all propaganda sounds the same, no matter whose it is.

I'd call it lies and deceit, however. Sounds less benign.

  6. cityjohn

What the hell happened you selective propagandist. Don't just replace Russian propaganda with a Western variant. Tell us both sides and the order of events.
You'd have to be light in the head beyond comprehension to watch this and see any message what so ever in the unending clips of civilian casualties and empty words accompanying it.

Let's talk about the burning women and children in Gaza or flight MH17 which has now been shown to have been shot down by Ukranian fighter jets.
You wanna see prisoners tortured, let's go to the US, or their CIA bases in Germany.
Maybe you should fear for your life in a society where you can harm millions. And who better to decide your faith than the leader that wants to make a nation great in every aspect, be it economic, intellectual, or militarily.

As long as nations exist they will destroy everything outside of their borders. Let's open a discussion on disbanding nations for good and you'll find the form of government then becomes a communist federation of states. Otherwise known as the Russian federation.

This is the internet, not FOX news. And this is a documentary about as much as my trouser snake is the Eiffel tower.

evidence about the plane being shot down by Ukrainian Forces....

      you have any.,.....

      oh no wait you dont.

please. noone is innocent on any side.

    2. VeluXe

      Please stay on the argument.
cityjohn never said that someone is innocent.
Such provocative terms and allegations lead to emotionally loaded and irrational discussions.

It would be very well apreachiated if you would phrase your argument like this :

Do you have any evidence to prove your statement? I dont think so.

So this can be an enjoyable conversation for all of us.
      Thank you.

    3. slpsa

ive had many enjoyable discussions here. I just get tired of the same old one sided arguments with 0 proof. Language issues you have are yours to dislike. Noone said straight to the point is a bad thing. why shroud it in big words..

    4. VeluXe

      Be that as it may,...
I am tired too... and I am extremly tired of provocative and inciting language. I do not mean any offense, but the use of language is important.
It can hurt people and cause them to become angry. You do not wish to be provoked or angered by people aswell, so I believe it is a matter of respect and common decency.

Let me state: I do not agree with either of your point of views. But there is a difference in presenting it.

Everything that leaves the rational grounds, and becomes irrational and emotionally heated, becomes a waste of brainpower and time.

I do believe you have something important to say and I am very much interested, and of course this debate is one sided... since it is a rebuttal to a one-sided documentary, so the posters are most likely to try to balance the documentary by an opposing view and arguments. Which is in itself one-sided.
That is a very good point you made.

I just asked politely to stay rational, so it can be an enjoyable experience for ALL people.
