My Life As a Gamer

It's really amazing to see how the gaming community is coming together with the gaming industry in an effort to raise donations for kids. Gaming for Good is basically just a website where developers donate their games and when gamers donate to charity they get those games for free. Money goes to a charity organization (Save the Children) which is helping children in Malawi, Indonesia, Bangladesh, etc. It's one of the most effective charities in the world.

People always tend to thank Bachir Boumaaza, aka Athene, for what he's doing, but, as he says, what he's doing is merely being a voice and trying to raise awareness and it's the gaming community that is actually coming together and raising those funds. Looking back and seeing where they came from, and seeing where they're now, what they've managed to achieve together really puts a smile on his face.

You now the saying: It's better to give rather than receive, and Athene really felt that when he was explaining gaming to the poor kids. He says it's the best experience you can have... they saved a child right there in front of his eyes. They even had a U.S. Marine that donated his entire paycheck when he saw the work they were doing... he was so touched by it.

"Save the Children" is Athene's inspiration and he's proud to be a gamer because of everything they have been doing. At any point throughout his journey, his mission wouldn't be possible without them. Athene also often contemplates and discusses philosophy, science, values, life and activism with his friends. He even made a documentary film about his own theory of everything. But, all started when he and his friends formed an activist group and their first project was NEE - a political organization in Belgium.

Pretty weird, i live in Belgium, perhaps because i'm not a gamer or ever watched big brother, but i never heard of Bachir Boumaaza before.
Otherwise, keep the good work up!

This is pretty cool. There's also some others like Extra Life in which my husband participates every year that gives charity to sick children's hospitals. They're now raising millions!

I like to see gaming enthusiasm used in a positive manner. :D

I totally agree with this. I always thought Athene was just his persona, he pulled it off so well. I didn't watch his "theory of everything" because I bought into his pretentious persona and figured it would be more prickish antics. I have so much more respect for "Athene" after this documentary.

That's the problem with the media here lately as something this big is considered "not interesting enough" by them.

i dont like the way how athene won he's way to the gaming society. first off all. he wasnt the best of all the mmo game and i can garrantee u that he wastn one of the world best in wow. when he made hes first video saying he was the best pally in the world, was when every paladin could 2 shoot in pvp. he just made it up on hes video, cause nobody really did bother with making wow video at that time. cause wow had an open pvp before u got the arena system and there were no way to say who was the best.
and the rumor just spreading out cause of he's way to publicise it. after that he got so many supporter that being the best was just obviously easy with the help of the gaming community.

but at least i can see that he is doing something good for the gaming community. and i do hope that all those money surely arrive to the ppl in need. and not like red cross and many other charity founder, i think you all know what i mean

What's with the communism fist? This is associated with New World Order. since I read of this a few days ago it's popping up everywhere. Eg. the 'OCCUPY .....' movement, encouraging protest, except its a symbol of communism not capitalism that is hidden in plain sight and protest is what is being encouraged for the NWO so they can bring in martial law and population control. Sounds crazy, but not when you consider the goings on over the last decade or so.
