Ötzi - The Iceman MurderÖtzi the Iceman is the modern nickname of a well-preserved natural mummy of a man from about 3300 BC, found in 1991 in a glacier of the Otztal Alps, near the border between Austria and Italy.

The nickname comes from the valley of discovery. He rivals the Egyptian "Ginger" as the oldest known human mummy, and has offered an unprecedented view on the habits of Chalcolithic (Copper Age) Europeans.

Ötzi was found by two German tourists, Helmut and Erika Simon, on September 19, 1991. The body was at first thought to be a modern corpse, like several others which had been recently found in the region. It was roughly recovered by the Austrian authorities and taken to Innsbruck, where its true age was finally discovered.

Subsequent surveys showed that the body had been located a few meters inside Italian territory. It is now on display at the South Tyrol Museum of Archeology in Bozen-Bolzano, Italy.

Hello, I watched the documentary week ago (I live in St. Louis MO- USA), and I wanted to share my idea. The focus was on the iceman being murdered - I feel he fell from the rocks above, and landed facedown  - therefore when a hunter passing by saw the "fur" which was the icemans "coat" - assumed it was an animal, and shot him in his back - not murdered. Mistaken for an animal since he wore animal fur to keep warm.

This is amazing! I needed it for a summative test. Thank You!
One thing I would ask for is more information, who cares about how much time it takes.
I need works cited for this video.

When this site isn't trying to support Evolution everyday it's trying to promote it I dare you to go to the front page every week and not see a Doc on "where we came from" "who is man" "the life of our beginnings" how about some Docs that show both sides to facts of our past and being here and stop forcing theories as facts?

This doc is as good as it gets. It provides several possible scenarios for this person's death, but more importantly, it's paints a colorful picture of early Europeans.

Watched this in my Archaeology of European Prehistory course and its pretty on par with related articles on Otzi and various theories of what happened to him. Recommend for anyone.

ATTENTION ARMCHAIR ANTHROPOLOGISTS. They neglected to mention the 3,000-year old Big Mac wrapper tucked into Otzi's deerskin bag. A burger to die for!

We must be careful about reading more into evidence than it warrants. Some of the theories, while entertaining, go too far trying to explain the unexplainable.

Hey Andrew, you don't have to go back in time to find a place where you could experience a struggle for survival. Just start walking.

Andrew: LOL! Unless you were the one that had his head cracked open with a stone ax!

Interesting look into how "CSI Evidence" is enabling acheologists & anthropologists to develop an even clearer picture of how ancient people may have lived and died. Worth watching.
