The Portal: The Hessdalen Lights PhenomenonHessdalen is a small valley in the central part of Norway. At the end of 1981 through 1984, residents of the Valley became concerned and alarmed about strange, unexplained lights that appeared at many locations throughout the Valley. Hundreds of lights were observed. At the peak of activity there were about 20 reports a week.

Project Hessdalen was established in the summer of 1983 to study Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon (UAP) and Unidentified Flying Object(UFO) sightings. A field investigation was carried out between 21 January and 26 February 1984.

Fifty-three light observations were made during the field investigation. Assistant professor Erling Strand, the founder of the Hessdalen project, conducted together with the author the first international congress of the Hessdalen phenomena in 1994. This congress attracted scientists from all over the world and boosted the scientific research in Hessdalen.

Statements from the congress indicated that explanation of the phenomena could lead to new concepts in physics. This congress also started the collaboration between stfold University College in Norway and CNR in Italy. Together with Dr. Stelio Montebugnoli the author started the EMBLA project, with the purpose of studying the electromagnetic radiation and behavior of the Hessdalen phenomena in 1999.

Lights are still being observed in the Hessdalen Valley, but their frequency has decreased to about 20 observations a year. The following is the conclusions from over 25 years of research and after Italian SETI scientists got involved with much more highly sophisticated equipment.

When you search Hessdalen Lights on Google News, you only find about 200 results. This is clearly not something mainstream media is paying lots of attention to...

Glassflamenco: Hello! Don't worry, you are totally normal. Even more, what you are living is beautiful, they are symptoms of spiritual awakening (not in a religious way). You are connecting yourself to the new frequencies of Earth and experimenting the positive global changes. I'll give you some tips that might help you in your search. For example, look at old indigenous knowledges all around the world, at new discoveries in quantum physics and at discoveries relating really old archaeological sites all around the planet. But most importantly, follow your intuition and your heart when doing your research. ;)

I have been experiencing strange lights and sensations at night and am seeking answers. If something is going on, I'd like some kind of explanation soon. This phenomenon seems to be reaching a boiling point. Good to see I'm not completely crazy.

I live in Kansas City, Mo. And the things I see with my eyes can't be explained, nor am I going to deny the evidence. We have bright glowing lights just hovering in the night sky. Then once I record them through my iPhone or iPad their moving up & down changing from white to red & yellow. Are these things survilance. I'm always suspicious I think there observing us. But no one seems to notice anything just like cattle no one looks up. They are here & have always been here. Sheeple are going to deny until it comes out the sky & exterminate them & they will say I didn't see anything. As they drink their sodas & GMO foods.

so if by chance anyone knows anyone who is truly serious about strange phenomenons in the US. Let me know cuz I can't find any. Everyone I reach out to either is full of it, a phony researcher looking for attention with misleading web pages. OR. They have no Idea what I have Think I'm nuts,Or know exactly what I have and are afraid of it. any way don't matter. I don't care. I just wanna figure it out and need some help doing it. any suggestions would be cool

In my opinion, the phenomenon are just alien spacecraft controlled by remote control looking for minerals on that particular area. There is not another explanation!

Let me first begin by saying I am not a professional image analyst. I do it on a strictly amateur basis. However, I have recently looked at several photos, taken in Leeds, UK, and am convinced that the images show a light phenomenon incredibly reminscent of the Hessdalen lights. The commonalities between the Hessdalen lights and those sent to me from Leeds are, in my opinion, far more than just coincidental. One of the lights is particularly fascinating and looks very much like the iconic Hessdalen image often shown on the internet. It is ribbon-like and shows sudden changes in direction and breath-taking acceleration. Another image shows what appears to be a spherical pink anomaly, and 'L'-shaped orange anomaly, close to the ground and adjacent to some houses. The picture of the ribbon-like anomaly also contains possible blue and green flashes of light high in the atmosphere. They apppear to be emerging from the clouds.

This is good. Portal.

Very interesting, indeed.

The Hessdalen Lights are spirits that have no physical body of flesh. Their presence indicates a great land mass geological change soon to take place, there.

@ zardoz

First of all holograms do not show up on radar, nor do they bounce off trees or respond to lazers. Secondly, holograms can not move two tons of dirt cut in such a precise way. Third, do you have any idea what it would cost to produce phenomenon in the sky via holograms? Fourth, if someone wanted to produce phenomenon in the sky, for whatever reason, wouldn't they do it somewhere other than in such remote out of the way areas where hardlly no one would see it? Fifth, with this many scientists and scientific instrumentation holograms would be found out on the first observation very easily, and would be exposed for what they are. Sixth, why make up such outlandish reasons for the phenomenon when the suggested phenomenon seems so much more plausible?

People dead set against believeing in any phenmomenon are no more objective that those dead set on believing in phenomenon. Science and scientific research is about an open mind, not preconcieved ideas and denial no matter what evidence is presented. There are many viable reasons why aliens would not introduce themselves to species such as our own, some of which you demonstrate with your post.

@ Everyone

Some of the phenomenon I observed in this documetary seems natural in some ways (ball lightning perhaps), then again some seems totally unnatural. It is a good thing that science has decided to get involved and bring with it the necessary instruments to seperate the two. I have seen something that looked very similar to some of the balls of light I saw in this documentary, up close and personal. These same balls of light were seen by my dad and my uncle on seperate occasions. They acted as if they were under intelligent control, responding to noise and motion. I will watch this case with much interest.

If anyone is interested, their is a live webcam at
Although I'm not quite sure what I am looking at. Kinda fuzzy!
I find this phenom highly interesting.
Thanks for the post!

i really liked the part on big pieces of dirt that have been moved, i think that is really weird, and truly shows that something weird is going on, that or some millionaire has spend his whole fortune making this up, and i think aliens would be more likely to happen than some guy wasting his money in the norwegian wilderness

Really interesting and good doc. Though personally I do think they are explainable by science (the part where they got into the WHY and the energy forms, etc was really interesting), I also think it is really cool that there is still stuff out there that humans have a hard time explaining. Keeps us on our toes, because you just never know.

Looking forward to following this into the future to see what else scientists discover about the Hessdalen lights.

See the well known Peter Jennings Special 'UFO's Seeing is Believing' and cull out everything that is more than 'lights in the sky.' It has some of the most compelling testimony out there (4or5 cops in one night!). If intelligent life exists here why wouldnt it exist elsewhere? I have no doubt it does but I would hesitate to guess what form it might take. Hopefully they are more compassionate to 'lower life forms' than we are.

I think "they" have the ability to create any kind of moving images in the sky with holograms at this point. Just more smoke and mirrors, as far as I'm concerned. I'm not going to take this alien thing seriously until they announce themselves generally to the people of Earth, using some means which are unmistakably extraterrestrial, which shouldn't be too difficult if they have the technology to get here in the first place. If they only want to talk to government leaders, then screw 'em - they probably aren't "good" aliens anyway.

Oxygen, Nitrogen, Silicon and Scandium - this means those "lights" are lifeforms. I remember when i was a child reading a book by Carl Sagan about UFOs. He stated that lifeforms can be based on silicon as well. Also he wondered about whether those lights in the sky contain huge amounts of oxygen and silicon

This was really interesting! I had not heard of this particular phenomenon happening in Norway. I'm not the real Tom Cruise by the way.

I was skeptical at first, but it got really interesting when it got to the science part of the phenomenon.
I'm really puzzled about this.
It doesn't seem like it's a 100% natural phenomenon to me. Too many strange things is going on.
I'm curious to see what it turns out to be.
Nevertheless i'm sure we can learn more about the forces of the universe from studying this.

I saw similar lights on the night sky where I lived, four years ago. They where three circular lights, red and yellow, twinkling and moving, as if dancing. It lasted five minutes. This was in Norway too.
