Crisis in the Congo: Uncovering the Truth

Crisis in the Congo: Uncovering The Truth explores the role that the United States allies, Rwanda and Uganda, have played in triggering the greatest humanitarian crisis at the dawn of the 21st century.

Millions of Congolese have lost their lives in a conflict that the United Nations describes as the deadliest in the world since World War Two.

Rwanda and Uganda, invaded in 1996 the Congo (then Zaire) and again in 1998, which triggered the enormous loss of lives, systemic sexual violence and rape, and widespread looting of Congo's spectacular natural wealth.

The ongoing conflict, instability, weak institutions, dependency and impoverishment in the Congo are a product of a 125 year tragic experience of enslavement, forced labor, colonial rule, assassinations, dictatorship, wars, external intervention and corrupt rule.

Analysts in the film examine whether U.S. corporate and government policies that support strongmen and prioritize profit over the people have contributed to and exacerbated the tragic instability in the heart of Africa.

Patrice Lumumba was the last real chance the Congo had, another real opportunity for democracy in the third world snuffed out by the CIA.

No different in ideology than what the American government, bankers, and wall-street recently did to their own citizenry, all one has to do is add in some genocide and it would be the same....

What the West has done to, and not done for the Congo, is unbelievable. Christianity has been brought to this area by the West and has now mixed with more traditional beliefs in witchcraft resulting in the abuse and abandonment of thousands of children accused of being possessed or of being a witch. There are even African immigrants sending their children back to Africa from London to have a so called "demon spirit" removed, which is called deliverance. This process entails cutting the children with razors, stomping on their stomachs, fasting (deprivation of food), etc. and have caused the deaths of at least one child we know of and more than likely many, many that we don't know of. On top of this we refuse to go in and stop the genocide and torture of innocents while we bully our way into other sovereign nations who do not need or want us there. No wonder the world hates us!

I agree that all of that is horrible and sickening and should NOT happen at all to anyone. But i disagree with your comment of "the world hates us". They do not hate us. America does help other countries. American citizens are fortunate, more than we know. I'm glad you're recognizing this crisis, but don't end up saying "the world hates us". Do something about it.

As long as greed is allowed to go completely unchecked (as is the case in all modern jurisdictions), you will have people stopping at nothing to satisfy this greed.

  13. Carole Ann Lajoie

There is something wrong with a world whose leaders take no action when they know that millions of women and children are murdered at the expense of the greed of others.

a great historical perspective on the congo can be gained by viewing "the congo: white king, red rubber, black death" available right here on TDF. it offers up quite a few insights on the exploitation of central africa for the past century and a half or so, as well as surprising roots for the "local custom" of "taking hands". the entire region has been raped and pillaged for entirely too long, with no relief in sight. isn't it "funny" how a country that has provided the raw materials for "cutting edge technology" for over a century (first rubber, then alloying minerals for steel, now rare earth elements) can be both incredibly impoverished, and lusted after by so many. as africa is now the last untapped labor resource on the planet, it would seem the exploitation will continue for a while yet. i wonder how much more "western aid" it will take before we allow "the dark continent" to heal, and finally get the chance to grow into the incredibly rich continent it SHOULD be.

That's what Corporate - Government - White - America does, everywhere they go it's for personal gain. Money & greed is the root of all evil. That's why no one respects them or likes them. They're destroying society, the environment, nature and human relations all for a buck. God is watching what he created being destroyed by what the devil created.
