Miracle Cure? A Decade of the Human Genome

Miracle Cure? A Decade of the Human GenomeA decade ago, scientists announced that they had produced the first draft of the human genome, the 3.6 billion letters of our genetic code.

It was seen as one of the greatest scientific achievements of our age, a breakthrough that would usher in a new age of medicine. A decade later, Horizon finds out how close we are to developing the life-changing treatments that were hoped for.

Horizon follows three people, each with a genetic disease, as they go behind the scenes at some of Britain's leading research labs to find out what the sequencing of the human genome has done for them - and the hope this remarkable project offers all of us.

    Interesting...?

  2. Jason Cheng

as a student of bio, this documentary puts a human face on the subjects i'm taking in uni... genetic diseases are very difficult to treat...

  3. Johnny Armageddon

These scientists seem to actually believe that Big-pharma would allow them to create a cure for anything. There is no profit from a one injection cure and profit is vastly more important than your quality of life

    Really good doc.
I'm really fascinated by the way genes defines so much! Only thing was the science was a bit simplistic, would have enjoyed a broader explanation. But then again, i guess i can research it elsewhere.

Most people would pay more money for the one injection cure then for a life time of pharma products. Big-pharma execs die too and so do their families. I'm sure they would love a cure as much as the next guy. We feel helpless against these diseases and want to blame someone. Corporations have become the new Satan.
