The History of Grand Theft Auto
The Grand Theft Auto (GTA) series is a highly acclaimed and popular video game franchise developed by Rockstar Games. The game has evolved significantly since its inception in 1997 and has become an integral part of the gaming industry. The series is known for its open-world gameplay and the ability to freely explore a vast and detailed virtual world.
The first Grand Theft Auto game was released in 1997 and was developed by DMA Design, which later became Rockstar North. The game was a top-down, 2D game set in a fictional city called Liberty City, which was based on New York City. The game's objective was to complete a series of criminal missions, including theft, robbery, and murder, while avoiding law enforcement.
The game received mixed reviews upon release, with some critics praising its open-world gameplay and others criticizing its violence and lack of direction. Despite the mixed reception, the game was a commercial success and spawned two sequels, Grand Theft Auto 2 and Grand Theft Auto III.
Grand Theft Auto III, released in 2001, was a major turning point for the series. The game was the first to feature a fully 3D open-world environment and a protagonist with a backstory and personality, named Claude. The game was set in a fictional city called Liberty City, which was heavily inspired by New York City. Grand Theft Auto III was critically acclaimed for its innovative gameplay and immersive world, and is often cited as one of the greatest video games of all time.
Following the success of Grand Theft Auto III, Rockstar Games released several more games in the series, including Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. These games continued to expand upon the open-world gameplay and immersive storytelling of Grand Theft Auto III.
In 2008, Rockstar Games released Grand Theft Auto IV, which was set in a fictionalized version of New York City called Liberty City. The game featured a new protagonist named Niko Bellic and focused on the criminal underworld of the city. The game was praised for its realistic and immersive world, as well as its complex characters and storyline.
In 2013, Rockstar Games released Grand Theft Auto V, which was set in the fictional city of Los Santos, based on Los Angeles. The game featured three playable protagonists, each with their own storyline, and was the first in the series to feature an online multiplayer mode. Grand Theft Auto V was a commercial and critical success, breaking several sales records and winning numerous awards.
Throughout its history, the Grand Theft Auto series has been the subject of controversy due to its portrayal of violence and criminal activity. However, the series has also been praised for its innovative gameplay, immersive worlds, and complex storytelling. The series has influenced many other video games and has become a cultural phenomenon, with millions of fans worldwide.
I only like the first one.
I would have liked to see the makers, and hear from them instead of an outsider s narration, however, it s still cool to know the evolution of dma, rockstar, I don t own a console anymore, but, it s my best reason to date to own a playstation 3 still, it s worth it to own 4 & 5! it rocks!
Depends on your perspective, the playstyle of GTA can be very simple, one branch: task hunting, one end: 100% collection.
All you had to do was follow the damn train, Luyang Han :)
