Insomnia is common in at least 10 percent of all adults. Insomnia is defined by a strict criteria based on the frequency and impact it has on the person affected. This type of sleep deficiency affects people of all ages and there are many remedies on the market that propose to address it and give people the relief they need.

The ability to get a good night's sleep is important because it can impact bodily functions and even our mood. Each time we go to sleep, the brain goes through a number of sleep cycles and stages, and every stage and cycle is important. If they are interrupted, it is likely to impact us in some negative way. Research has been conducted in this area. For example, analysis of hormonal data that reveals that sleep has a massive impact on the hormones that regulate our appetite, and this has led to further research on how a lack of sleep affects the likelihood of being obese.

In the most natural sense, our exposure to light regulates our daily biological clock. However, in the modern era, the sun is not the only primary light source, so relying on its most basic reactive instinct is no longer an efficient way for our body to manage itself. Constantly being surrounded by natural and artificial light tells our biological clock it is always daylight. Even small amounts of light like a candle can impact this natural process.
There are also some activities and lifestyles that affect our ability to get a good night's sleep. One of the most common issues is extensive work hours. On the other hand, physical activity like exercise can actually have a positive impact on sleep.

One of the most common ways we try to address this problem is through medicating. Typically, doctors prescribe sleeping pills. However, sleeping pills become toxic and addictive when taken for a long period and these negative effects were only noticed decades after being prescribed for long term, uninterrupted use. In reality, the most common cause of sleeping disorders is depression, so what is actually happening is the individual being medicated for the stress and anxiety they experience.

You may be thinking that there has to be some sort of digital technology invented to address this problem. However, researchers and scientists in this feature discuss innovative ways to address insomnia by using natural, offline methods. You can hear experts relay how you can use simple natural processes like breathing and napping to manage your sleep cycle and get a good understanding of why these techniques work.
